Hugely popular block-building game Minecraft could soon be made into a movie.

Markus Persson, Minecraft creator told this week that Warner Brothers was in conversation with him regarding the Minecraft project.

Persson claimed that he disclosed the information to stop someone else trying to expose information about it.

Movie news site Deadline revealed that one of the producers for the Lego Movie is in charge of the project.

Deadline reported that Warner was considering making a movie out of a "live-action" version.

The film is in its early stages as Warner has just purchased the rights to Minecraft's iconic characters monsters, blocks, and blocks.

This news comes less than two months after Mojang, Minecraft creator, ended an Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to create a movie inspired by the game.

Hollywood has a long history of remaking best-selling games for film. Many projects never get to the stage of production.

For example, a movie set in the science-fictional Halo universe has been in development for the past nine years, but filming has yet to begin despite multiple scripts being written.

Similar films based on Bioshock, Gears of War and Metal Gear Solid Work have been discussed, but none has yet begun filming.

One game that is being turned into a film is World of Warcraft, filming of which was reported to have begun in January of this year, with British director Duncan Jones in charge.  THINKOFDEATH.CO.UK The film is scheduled to be released in the first quarter of 2016.
